Parkinson’s Families Project (PFP)
This study will investigate the genetic causes of Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders to help develop new and improved treatments.
It is being carried out by a team of researchers based at University College London.
Criteria
- People who developed Parkinson’s or another movement disorder before or at age 45
OR
- People with Parkinson’s or another movement disorder, where there is a family history or another family member with a movement disorder.
Location
- Clinical Research Unit at Fairfield Hospital (part of the Northern Care Alliance)
Involves
- One clinic visit (1-2 hours) will include a range of tests (blood and/or saliva samples), cognitive and movement assessments as well as a questionnaire about symptoms and family history.
- You will also be asked if other members of your family (parents, siblings) would like to take part by donating a sample, even if they are unaffected. This will help researchers to understand any genetic links.
