REFRESHED: REstoring FavouRablE Sleep to HElp patients with Diabetes (Observational Study)

Researchers from The University of Manchester’s Institute of Human Development led by Principle Investigator Dr Martin Rutter, senior lecturer and honorary consultant physician, are undertaking research to assess how sleep disturbance is related to blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

The research team approached Help BEAT Diabetes to help with recruitment alongside their recruiting of patients attending the Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Dr Neesha Patel, post-doctoral researcher and health psychologist, described the experience:

“We are extremely grateful to the team for all their help with recruiting; we would not have been able to reach our target recruitment without their support. The Help BEAT Diabetes team only invited people to take part in our study if they met the inclusion criteria and lived in the North West and were able to travel to the Manchester Royal Infirmary and The Wellcome Trust Manchester Clinical Research Facility for the study visits.

“Help BEAT Diabetes really is a fantastic service and provides an invaluable opportunity for researchers to reach a wider population of patients’ who are very enthusiastic about taking part in research. We hope to work with them again in the near future.”
